Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Inspire a Love of Reading
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which aims to inspire a love of reading in young children launched in 2017 in Caswell County via a grant through Smart Start from the State of North Carolina. Together, we are working together to ensure children develop a love of reading early on.
The Imagination Library mails free books to children from birth to age five in all Caswell County zip codes. This program is available across all NC counties.
Once children are registered, their first books should arrive six to nine weeks later. With every book, there are tips inside for the parents to help guide them in how to actively read with their children. Tips may include a list of discussion topics, key points and more. The mailings will continue until the children reach the age of five.
The books are selected based on the child’s age. The very first book a child will receive is “The Little Engine That Could” by Watty Piper with a note from Dolly Parton welcoming the family to the program. The last book a child will receive is “Look Out Kindergarten” by Nancy Carlson along with a letter of gratitude and encouragement for completing the program.
